Japanese Phrases for Tourist

Going to Japan for the first time? Here are a couple of Japanese expressions that will help you get through your trip, and hopefully without a hitch.

• Hello – Konnichiwa (こんにちは)

• Thank you – Arigatou gozaimasu (ありがとうございます)

• Excuse me / Sorry – Sumimasen (すみません)

• Yes – Hai (はい)

• No – Iie (いいえ)

• How much is this? – Kore wa ikura desu ka? (これはいくらですか？)

• Menu, please – Menyuu o kudasai (メニューをください)

• I don’t understand – Wakarimasen (わかりません)
